The Gold Quartz Discovery Monument

The Gold Quartz Discovery Monument marks the locale where George McKnight tripped over that eventful piece of quartz gold rock and made history while chasing his cow. The Gold Hill Mine, which was established here in 1850, is credited with over $4 million in gold. The granite marker is located atop Gold Hill, on Jenkins Street at Hocking Avenue. No one knows what happened to the cow.
